After moaning, procrastinating and trying to forget about my dissertation all year, I finally sat down and did a serious amount of work on it yesterday. I am now feeling much better about everything :) I actually remembered why I chose my topic and how much I like what I'm writing about and everything. Tonight Robyn is having her birthday curry so I will probably go to that (even though I have a cold :( ). I will try and remember to take my camera, as this site has been a become a bit lacking in photos recently!

Only about 7 weeks until I have to hand in my dissertation. I haven't done nearly enough work on it. I haven't been to see my supervisor, partly because I'm a bit afraid to admit to him how little work I've actually done. Everyone else seems to be just getting on with it. What is it about me that makes it so fucking impossible to actually do some work? I read and read and read, and nothing seems to come of it. I've given myself until Monday to write a full plan, an introduction, and to then I will go and see my supervisor. Updates on whether or not this actually happens to come.

Our friends Duncan and Anu have arrived in Ethiopia now, and Duncan has begun his record of their experiences. They're having real adventures! Check out Hullahullu to read more.

My leg is still not good. In fact it is yellow with an egglump. So I go to see the doctor. He asks if I have been sick, if I have been to the waterfall and scripts some painkillers. I guess its not broken.
Some 15 huge army trucks have been hanging around for about a week now and Anu is getting nervous.
‘I saw some army trucks. What are they here for?’ she asks anyone.
‘they are recruiting’
‘they are back from training in the Simien Mountains’
‘they are training nearby’


Cycling later, my front brake falls off my bike.


Arto and Aster take us out to see some Bahar Dar nightlife. We start drinking Tej, a local honey mead. It is an opaque yellow and comes served in a chemists testing beaker. It makes you feel like Dr.Jekel quashing his potion. Inside the hut there are even bees, attracted to the smell and casting giant shadows onto the walls from the single bulb.
We go on to several Ikista (trad. Dance) bars. These are tiny with music being drummed out and crowds of intoxicated men doing the insane vibrating dance, battling each other for who can shake the most in man to man stand offs with whooping crowds. It is like two birds mating ritual.The women are at home I guess.
On the way back Arto drives us through a honeycomb of tiny bars.

Ha, so it's been a whole week since I posted! And that was only Blake! What have I been doing in the meantime?! Well, it will have to remain a mystery for the moment, but I will be back to posting something real every day from tomorrow. I've been using all my internet time ranting on the Punk Planet message boards.
