Saving Private Ivan

I am sitting in work, its really quiet, nothing to do... The weekend should be very cool though. We are meeting up with Richard from Punk Planet one last time before his disappears back to Texas. We're off to see Funeral for a Friend at the Underworld tomorrow, which should be good. They were a lot of fun the last time we saw them, with Daisy. Apart from that... swimming again. I would go to the gym properly, but last weekend I did something crazy and weird to my arms that made them hurt rather a lot, so I think not :)

Meanwhile, the Big Brother addiction continues apace in our flat... Sad, I know...

Well. Tonight we went to the ICA to see The Mindscape of Alan Moore, with a question and answer before hand with some of the artists Moore has collaborated with. Listening to them talk was really something, interesting stories, but the movie was something else. It had low production values, and sometimes could have been better edited, but overall was just brilliant. It was mainly Alan talking, about everything from his childhood ('comics were a working class thing, everyone had them... like rickets') to magic. Which, some of you might know, I am generally pretty skeptical about. But listening to Moore - the way he explains it, it makes so much more sense. No need for literal magic: just a way of understanding consciousness. Talking about how monotheism is too simple, and explaining the doubling of knowledge theory in a much more captivating way than you've ever heard it before. The director, DeZ Vylenz, called him a 'Shaman' and when you first see him, hidden in a thicket of beard and hair, fire swirling behind him like a psychedelic student poster (it really works, despite what you think :) ).

Anyway. Today I have also been reading Greg Palast, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy. It is a book that will make you angry. Really, fucking angry and helpless feeling. But glad you read it. He portrays our society as so utterly corrupt, our selves as so disenfranchised, saying it is depressing is the worst kind of understatement. But at least it gets you thinking about things :) Anyway, as he is the writer on my mind, here is what he has to say about Reagan:
