Out with the old, in with the new
I've moved over from Blogger to Wordpress, but in the process my blog has moved to www.jessmccabe.co.uk/blog. Update your bookmarks! This page will stay up, but I will only be updating on the new page from now on. ¶ 12:03 AM 0 comments

That feeling you get when you've spent a stupid amount of money
I just bought a new laptop. I've been waiting on Mac to bring out the replacement to the ibook, and today they have and I've already ordered a swish mid-range one. I've "needed" this for ages now, so I'm going to be the happiest bunny in Southwark when it arrives. Also, my freelance work sort of half paid for it, so it's not too much of an extravagence.
I guess I can't afford to blow all that money on a new tattoo right now though.
By the way, I still haven't mentioned how cool the time travelling mechanical elephant was. It was very cool.

Thinking about a new tattoo...
On my other shoulder. But what to get? On my list of possibilities so far:
1) a black outline of a ship's wheel - a bit piratey, without going over the top
2) a skull and cross-swords (don't like crossbones). I've always kinda fancied the idea of this, just because I can't help thinking it would look delicious with an evening dress. But possibly a bit tacky.
3) A swirly tribal thing
4) A very stark silhouette of an elephant
The swirly would not be on my shoulder, but around my elbow. That's the one I've been contemplating the longest, but being a total office job sell out now, it would also restrict my ability to wear short sleeves. Argh, I know, I suck a huge amount.
Think I might get these guys to do it, if I don't end up waiting until my next trip to San Francisco.
Yes, I am really now designing my tattoo instead of revising for my media law exam. I could still tell you a thing or two about breach of confidence, though. ¶ 10:13 PM 0 comments

Dirty Deeds Done Cheap
Well, OK, that title has no relevance except for the fact I'm having a nostalgic ACDC party in my head. Instead of revising for my unbearably boring media law exam which is only a small collection of days away.
My problem is that I feel no urgency. Perhaps for the first time in my (academic) life, I don't feel any particular need to excel. I only want to pass so I don't have to retake. It's like another m ental universe a world away from what I'm used to, and probably just another symptom of how disenchanted I am with my MA. Except for the fact it has been undeniably good for me as a journalist, I would say it was a mistake. I'd sure be enjoying it more if I was revising for an exam on Blake or something. ¶ 7:22 PM 0 comments

Cousins
We have been coping with the usual invasion of my Israeli cousins. Today we went to Oxford Street. We love them, but what a nightmare. Here we are, blissfully unaware of the tears, sulks, squabbles and fake matzos allergies that await us:

Jess, Jacky, Elinor
The cats are not impressed.

Pause for breath
1) I no longer work for Adfero
2) In a mere four days I will start a new job working for a magazine called Environmental Finance
3) The magazine project I've been working on for my MA is finally, finally finished
4) Dear god I'm glad it's over
5) I've been doing some freelance work, which you can read some of here and here. This is the first time I've ever had a byline because of the policy at Adfero, so it's nice to get my name on something finally :)
6) I've decided I'm going to buy one of the ibook replacements when they come out *cross fingers* in the next month or so.
7) I now have my second cold in as many months.
8) My aunt and cousins are coming over today, so I expect they will be driving me crazy in one way or another
9) Now I'm off to do some ironing...
